A blind man clearly cannot make himself see. Only God can. The moment the man sees Christ before him, he no longer believes he could be healed, but he knows that he was healed and by Whose hand. Christ’s power to alter the seemingly fixed stands as a testament to who this Healer truly is. He is our God and our Savior! He not only has the power and authority to quicken our eyes but redeem our whole souls!
Our faith must not only be sufficient to believe in His healing but also to bear the weight of knowledge, that Jesus is in fact the Christ. In His wisdom, He instructs us to be fully converted to Him first for our own sakes that we might be more fully prepared to obtain healing and the knowledge that comes with it. But more importantly, as we truly believe He is the Savior of our souls first and as our hearts cleave ever tighter to Him for His sake alone independent of anything else our heart aches for, we will come to treasure Him more than the healing we desire.
Ultimately, our hearts are more important to the Lord than our “blind eyes” are to us. Without full access to our hearts and souls, He can do nothing for us, not even restore our sight. But with our hearts, He can offer this and more, even the greatest of miracles, the mending of our very souls. As we are all His and fully trust His dealings with us, we will come to know in time that He is in fact the Healer of our souls whether or not He heals our maladies. If we have the heart to truly seek Him, in time we will be given the eyes to clearly “see” Him. Of all the things we could see first, it will be our Healer.
